Summary: Yūki Cross was almost bitten by a vampire when she was 5, but Kaname Kuran saves her. He brought her to Chairman Cross's home, and now she is the bizarre chairman's adopted daughter. Ten years later, Yūki Cross is a prefect or guardian of the prestigious Cross Academy. Her job is to protect the day class (humans) from the night class (vampires) and to protect the true identity of the night class. Her fellow prefect is Zero Kiryū. Zero's parents were vampire hunters murdered by a vampire Shizuka Hiou. His twin brother, Ichiru's, whereabouts are unknown. Yūki likes Kaname-sempai, who loves her too. When Yūki finds out Zero is a vampire in danger to becoming a Level E, she feels really bad that he has been suffering alone. She lets him drink her blood. (A Level E vampire is out of control and must be gotten rid of. Zero is currently a Level D.) Kaname is hurt that Yūki and Zero's feelings are developing, but helps Zero because he only wants Yūki to be happy.
